BUFFALO POLICE UNDERWATER RECOVERY TEAM

The Edward M. Cotter also serves as a training/practice facility for the Buffalo Police Underwater Recovery Team (U.R.T.).

The U.R.T. is called upon to perform rescue/recovery operations in all types of water. The Cotter is able to transport the team to both lake and river locales, enabling the team to practice under a wide variety of conditions.

During practice or training sessions, the Underwater Recovery Team also checks the integrity of the Cotter, looking for any propeller damage the fireboat may have sustained during the icebreaking season. In addition, they remove any harmful zebra mussels which may have attached themselves to the Cotter's water intakes.
